The Royal Kew Gardens are located in Richmond, southwest London, and have more than 300 acres and 50,000 different plants and flowers. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the botanical park on the banks of the River Thames has over 50 features including some awesome guided tours, 10 ornamental buildings, and 10 plant houses.

Many people come from all over the world to see this famous royal garden. The flora is only part of the appeal though. The park also has a variety of different attractions including an art gallery, the Royal golf club, and of course, the Kew Palace. Be sure to see The Great Pagoda. It was made in 1762 for Princess Augusta. It has 10 floors and is an incredible sight. You can climb to the top but you will have to take 253 steps to get there.

Besides all that, Kew Gardens also has several museums and galleries where you can see some stunning artwork, namely botanical art. You can see more than 60,000 plants when you walk along the Great Broad Walk Borders as well. If you would rather not walk, take a seat on the Kew Explorer road train run by special gas to help the environment.

  • Enjoy the special plants at the Alpine House. The arch is 52 feet long and 33 feet high to allow the flora the ventilation and airflow it needs to thrive. The glass building was made to allow 90% of the UV light from the sun for the Alpine plants that usually grow above the treeline.
  • Visit the Palm House just inside the Victoria Gate, which was named after Queen Victoria. The historic building was constructed between 1844 and 1848 and stands 62 feet high. Get some selfies with the Queen's Beasts out front. The 10 guardian animal statues are an awesome sight to see.
  • Discover more at the Princess of Wales Conservatory. Opened by Princess Diana in 1987, this commemorative building boasts 10 different climate zones including wet tropics and dry tropics. You'll see carnivorous plants, water lilies, and orchids to name a few.
  • If you want to see more water lilies, the Waterlily House has a large pond inside with all sorts of water lilies. You will notice right away that it is hot and humid here so be prepared.
  • See the stellar artwork at Shirley Sherwood Gallery. The gallery of botanic art features paintings done by Dr. Shirley Sherwood, a British writer, artist, and botanist. The building is also home to paintings done by other artists like Walter Hood Fitch, the Bauer Brothers, and Georg D. Ehret.
  • Learn more at the garden museum. Museum No. 1 near the Palm House, also known as the General Museum, houses the history of native plants and their uses. It opened in 1857 and has some interesting ornaments and tools.
