Madrid Pride 2025
If there’s one event that turns Madrid into the ultimate party city, it’s Madrid Pride 2025. From June 27 to July 6, the city will explode with rainbows, music, and pure joy and bring together over two million people from all over the world.
This is the LGBTQ+ celebration you don't want to miss: you can choose between marching in the Madrid Pride Parade, listening to some interesting personal stories, watching drag performances in Plaza de Pedro Zerolo, or dancing your heart out at Puerta del Sol.
History of Madrid Pride
Madrid has been leading the charge for LGBTQ+ rights since the mid-1980s, when small grassroots demonstrations in the Chueca neighbourhood set the stage for what is now one of Europe’s largest and most important Pride events. After Spain legalized same-sex marriage in 2005, Madrid Pride gained international fame, and in 2017, it hosted WorldPride, proving once and for all that no one throws a Pride party like Madrid.
What to Expect at Madrid Pride 2025
Madrid Pride is a 10-day festival full of energy, activism, and non-stop pride celebrations. Here are some of the biggest highlights:
Opening Ceremony – Plaza de Chueca (June 27)
The Pride Proclamation kicks off the celebrations in Plaza de Chueca, the heart of Madrid’s LGBTQ+ scene. Expect powerful speeches, live performances, and a great atmosphere as Madrid welcomes the world to Pride 2025.
High Heel Race – Calle Pelayo (July 4)
One of the wildest and most entertaining events of the week, the High Heel Race on Calle Pelayo is a hilarious and impressive display of speed, balance, and style. Contestants – some in sky-high stilettos – race through the streets, proving that heels were made for more than just strutting.
Madrid Pride Parade – Paseo del Prado (July 5)
The Madrid Pride Parade is the main event, drawing in thousands of participants and over two million spectators. It starts at Atocha and moves through Paseo del Prado, Plaza de Colón, and ends at Plaza de España. Expect incredible floats, live music, and a powerful message of equality.
Concerts, Street Parties & Cultural Events
Throughout the week, stages across the city, including Plaza de Pedro Zerolo, Plaza del Rey, and Puerta del Sol, will host live music, drag shows, theater performances, and DJ sets. La Latina is another great spot to find outdoor celebrations, food, and drinks.
Weather During Madrid Pride 2025
Madrid in early July means hot, sunny days and warm nights. Expect temperatures ranging from 28–35 C (82–95 F), with little chance of rain. Since you’ll be dancing in the streets at gay pride events and walking between several events, make sure to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and bring sunscreen. A portable fan wouldn’t hurt either – trust us, the summer heat is real!
How to Get to Madrid Pride 2025 & Parking Info
Madrid is one of the most walkable cities in Europe, and with several events happening across neighborhoods like Chueca, Gran Vía, and Plaza Pedro Zerolo, public transport is the best way to get around.
- By metro: The Madrid Metro is fast, affordable, and runs late during Pride. The closest stations to the main parade and festivities are Chueca (L5), Gran Vía (L1, L5), and Banco de España (L2).
- By bus: Madrid’s EMT buses serve all major areas, with night buses (buhos) running throughout the city after the metro closes.
- By train: If you're arriving from another city, the Atocha and Chamartín train stations connect Madrid to the rest of Spain and beyond.
- By taxi/rideshare: Taxis and Uber/Cabify are widely available, but expect higher demand and road closures near major Pride venues.
- Parking: Driving in Madrid during Gay Pride? Good luck! Many streets around Plaza Pedro Zerolo and Gran Vía will be pedestrian-only, and parking is extremely limited. If you must drive, park at a public garage outside the center (like near Atocha) and use public transport from there.
