The Adelaide Fringe Festival was first held in 1960 as an alternative to the Adelaide Festival of Arts. From humble beginnings with just 16 shows, it has expanded to become one of the world’s largest arts festivals, second only to the Edinburgh Fringe!

With over a thousand events and countless performers across different disciplines, the Adelaide Fringe is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It has also been called the world’s largest open-access festival. During the summer season in South Australia, Fringe transforms Adelaide into a vibrant, creative hub with temporary venues (like tents, shipping containers, and even car parks) popping up all over the city, creating a magical atmosphere.

The festival presents everything from circus acts, cabaret, and stand-up comedy to theatre, visual arts, and music, making it appealing to a broad audience with diverse interests.

In March, temperatures slightly cool down to an average of 16.3°C (61°F) at night and 23.7°C (74.7°F) during the day.

• Bus, Tram, and Train: Adelaide’s public transport network, including buses, trams, and trains, is a convenient way to reach Fringe venues. The Adelaide Metro services cover key locations throughout the city and surrounding suburbs.
• Free City Services: Adelaide offers free public transport within certain city areas. The City Connector bus service (98A, 98C, 99A, 99C) operates free routes in and around the CBD, which may help reach various Fringe venues.
• Tram Service: Tram rides are free within the city center between the Entertainment Centre and South Terrace, with stops near key Fringe locations like Rundle Mall and Victoria Square.
