Where to go shopping in Naples

Its historic center is lined with colorful buildings and shops that make it an underrated retail destination. Bustling piazzas offer both sightseeing and shopping opportunities along with pop-up markets for the holiday season.

Naples is large enough that you'll find just about anything. There are plenty of modern shopping centers and even malls for practical purchases, but that's not exactly what you're heading to this historic city for.
The main shopping districts in the city center are best for (in typical Italian fashion) artful tailors selling handmade products, opulent boutiques, galleries showcasing the work of local artists, artisan jewelers, and traditional open-air markets where you'll find scrumptious foodstuffs and fresh produce.
If you're looking more for an experience than a particular item, head to Via Toledo, Vomero, and Galleria Umberto for window-shopping, people-watching, and of course, legendary retail offerings. Expect all the recognizable Italian luxury brands like San Gregorio Armani and Louis Vuitton to be on offer, but a Naples-specific one to look out for is Isaia, among others.
While many of these boutiques are homey and informal, expect reliable business hours with a few local stores being closed on Sundays. Still, credit cards are accepted almost everywhere except certain food stalls at markets and prices are almost always firm and non-negotiable.
Unique shops to visit in Naples
It’s unlikely you flew to Italy just to hang out at a shopping mall, so you’ll want to explore Central Naples for a mix of locally made products and vintage shopping.
Maison Cilento
This local boutique offers the absolute best locally made men's fashion all in one place. Don't expect recognizable international labels, that's simply not the point here. Instead, you'll be able to shop through tailor-made formal wear. You might not have enough time to go through the process of getting a tailored suit, but the quality of the shirts, ties, belts, shoes, and other garments make this an essential Naples fashion institution. Local designers like E. Marinella have supplied British royalty and even American presidents, and Maison Cilento is the brand’s top outlet. There's a reason this place has been open for more than two centuries.
- Pro tip: The boutique is situated near the lovely Villa Comunale di Napoli Park, making it an easy stop on a morning stroll. Stopping by a Bounce location before your morning walk will help lighten the load for the retail therapy later in the day.
- Address: Riviera di Chiaia, 203/204
Retrophilia
Via Mezzocannone is the top spot in Naples for trendy boutiques, especially vintage stores. It’s situated near the University, so expect hip cafés next to shops like Retrophilia, which is easily the best place in the city for lightly-used fashion. The prices aren’t dirt cheap, by any means. In fact, the main reason fashionistas head to this multi-floor boutique is because you'll find expertly curated fashion you simply won't find elsewhere. If you’re visiting during the weekend, get there early before the most unique and rare finds are snatched up!
- Address: Via Mezzocannone, 71
Omega Guanti
If you’re in the market for a pair of gloves, you’re in luck. While the Naples weather barely necessitates a pair of gloves even during the Christmas season, Omega Gaunti is a world-renowned producer of handmade leather gloves. You’ll need to really know where you’re going when you head to the Sanità district, as their boutique is situated on the fifth floor of the unassuming building on Via Stella.
- Address: Via Stella, 12
Shopping in Naples beyond clothing
Italian fashion is understandably a highlight, but not necessarily a priority for your trip to Naples. Luckily, you’re in a city filled with open-air food markets and specialty artisans.
Colonnese
With the university right in the heart of the city, Naples has a bookish streak, to say the least. While you’re hardly there to brush up on history, you can stop by Librerie Colonnese, which is an ancient bookshop selling unique and rare finds. Regardless of whether you’re hunting for first-edition copies of bestsellers or classics, the store itself is worth stopping by. Have a curiosity for the occult? Colonnese specializes in beautifully designed tarot cards as well.
- Pro tip: The shop is situated near the Conservatory and Piazza Bellini, so you’ll be able to get some sightseeing in. If you have a stack of books, you can store your shopping bag with Bounce before heading out to explore.
- Address: Via San Biagio Dei Librai 100
La Pignasecca
The oldest market in Naples, La Pignasecca is the quintessential Italian street market you’ve doubtless been picturing while you plan your trip to Naples. If you want to set up a piazza-side picnic or stock up on provisions for your trek through the Molo San Vincenzo, you can buy some bread, cheese, and meats at one of the hundreds of vendors setting up every day starting at 8 am. You’ll also find vendors serving Neapolitan-style pizza (parigina) and other street food.
- Address: Via Pignasecca
Kiphy Saponi
One of Italy's most renowned producers of artisanal soap is situated just up the street from Piazza San Domenico Maggiore. With rare and exotic ingredients sourced from Egypt and other corners of the globe, Kiphy Saponi combines ancient soap-making traditions with inventive (and eco-friendly) modern techniques to produce unbelievable soaps. You probably never thought you needed a soap made with fennel, but this store will make you think otherwise.
- Address: Via Brecce a S. Erasmo, 111
Traditional shopping options in Naples
While there are certainly shopping malls in Naples, the primary retail centers double as sightseeing destinations as they’re located on historic cobbled streets or beautiful buildings. Even the malls here have historic (and photogenic) settings!
Via dei Tribunali
One of the most attractive streets in Naples, this cobbled stretch was once home to Italian nobility and wealthy tradesmen. While there’s still a residential aspect to Via dei Tribunali, it’s mostly lined with specialty workshops and art galleries where you’ll find custom-made folk art and works from local artists. La Scarabattola is one of the most revered art galleries in Naples, and L'Arte Del Presepio is the top spot for ceramic artwork and other goods. For traditional Neapolitan wood carvings, pop into Vincenzo Gambardella Arte Sacra.
- Pro tip: If you're buying larger items like wood carvings, you'll be able to store them with Bounce because our facilities aren’t limited in terms of size capacities. Each item is also covered by protection!
Galleria Umberto I
The premier shopping center in Naples, the shops of Galleria Umberto I are housed in a 19th-century arcade covered with an opulent glass dome. Even if you’re not in the market for anything in particular, visiting this gorgeous building is absolutely worth the short trek from hotspots like the Royal Palace or the Giardini di Molosiglio. There are dozens of shops selling everything from recognizable brands to custom-made jewelry (Museo del Corallo). Another highlight is Regali Barra Galleria D'Arte, which sells unbelievable porcelain emporium vases and figurines.
- Address: Via Santa Brigida, 68
- Pro tip: There aren’t lockers onsite, but Bounce has convenient luggage storage facilities throughout the city center that make it simple to drop the bags off on your way to the Galleria.
Antica Manifattura Ceramica F.lli Stingo
One of the most renowned producers of ceramic art is this family-run workshop near Via Gianturco Train Station. The business dates back to the 18th century and has been producing marvelous terracotta tiles and vases showcasing iconic ceramics with blue, white, and red geometric aesthetics. You’ll find decor, homeware, furnishings, and other handmade items that are bucket-list items for arts enthusiasts and sophisticates.
- Address: Via Brecce Sant’Erasmo 11
If you’re visiting Naples, planning a shopping spree is a great way to break up all the sightseeing through the Archaeological Museum, Piazza Dante, and Piazza del Plebiscito while providing a unique insight into the industries that have sustained this amazing city throughout its history. To fully understand Italian culture, you’ll want to explore the craftsmanship that’s produced some of the best artisanal products in the world, and Naples couldn’t be a better setting.
