MetLife Stadium Bag Policy 2024 - Key Details

A look at the NFL field from a fan's point of view

New Jersey and New York states have no shortage of activities, attractions, shopping, and sights to keep tourists busy. If you're in the process of building your itinerary you may also want to add an "attraction" that has proven to be popular with locals and tourists alike. A love for sports seems to run through the blood of locals, and that's exactly why an event at MetLife Stadium is a must-see.

Located at 1 MetLife Stadium Dr, in East Rutherford is MetLife Stadium. The stadium is just five miles from New York City. MetLife Stadium is home to both the NFL's New York Giants and the NFL's New York Jets. This makes the venue unique as not many stadiums are home to two major teams in the same league. It also means fans have double the games to choose from.

But that's not all the action taking place at MetLife Stadium, it also hosts other events like concerts. Some of the top performers who have put on a concert at MetLife Stadium include Pink, Luke Combs, The Rolling Stones, Chris Stapleton, Jonas Brothers, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga to name a few.

Be sure to leave plenty of time before or after your event at MetLife Stadium to do some sightseeing in New York City, the Big Apple as it's so lovingly called. This is the country's largest city in terms of population, and it's truly the city that never sleeps. Some of the most popular attractions worth visiting include Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Bronx Zoo, and the many Broadway shows happening year-round. Then there is the shopping and dining scene in the city, which have a life all their own. And let's not forget the never-ending calendar of events that features markets, festivals, parades, fairs, and more.

If you do have tickets to a game or show at MetLife Stadium you'll want to read on because we've got all the details regarding the bag policy in place.

Bag Policy at MetLife Stadium: What You Need to Know Before You Visit

MetLife Stadium uses the clear bag policy. This means you can bring one bag in per person, but it needs to be clear. It also cannot exceed 12" x 6" x 12". You can use a one-gallon clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag, such as a freezer bag. The stadium does make exceptions for medical bags and medically necessary items.

Also approved is a small clutch with or without a handle or strap. These can't exceed 4.5" x 6.5". These items don't have to be clear plastic. If you plan on bringing a bag into the MetLife Sports Complex, be prepared for an inspection prior to entry.

According to the bag policy, the following items aren't allowed at an NFL game or any other event. These include tote bags, backpacks, fanny packs, small purses, binocular cases, diaper bags, seat cushions, computer bags, or camera bags. Fans are also encouraged to look at their ticket to see if there are any other rules regarding the clear plastic bag policy.

MetLife Stadium does offer a bag check facility, which can be found at each gate that is open, but depending on the event, there is a fee to use it. As well, these can fill up fast leaving you scrambling to come up with a plan at the last minute. This is exactly why our bag storage makes so much sense, it eliminates the stress of what to do with your belongings and will help you speed through the entry process.

Policies to Keep In Mind When Going to MetLife Stadium

The following policies are also in place at MetLife Stadium.

You Can Bring Some Outside Food and Drinks Into MetLife Stadium

The food and beverage policy is another important one at this multi-purpose stadium. Guests can bring in a factory-sealed plastic bottle of water, or soft drinks. It can't be larger than 20 oz. Reusable water bottles aren't allowed.

Outside food is permitted inside MetLife Stadium. It must be contained in clear bags so that security can easily see it like a freezer bag. It will still go through a proper inspection too.

There is also a stadium alcohol policy in effect for all events. Guests are limited to two alcoholic beverages at a time, and any guest under the age of 40 will be asked to show valid identification. There are also alcohol cut-off times. Sales will stop at the beginning of the third quarter.

A better plan than bringing food in clear bags and water bottles is to buy snacks and drinks at the concession stands. Be warned that this is a cashless stadium. If you want to purchase items at the store or concession stands, you won't be able to use cash.

You Are Welcome to Bring a Camera to MetLife Stadium

Cameras are allowed at MetLife Stadium, which means you can take all the pictures you want of the New York Giants, the New York Jets, or any other event. The main rule is that your camera equipment doesn't interfere with creating an enjoyable and safe environment for all. That means no lens longer than 6" is allowed. A long lens can get in the way of fellow patrons and block their view.

Also prohibited at MetLife Stadium are selfie sticks, tripods, and monopods.

A Long List of Prohibited Items at MetLife Stadium

Here's a handy list of items you can refer to that are prohibited in MetLife Stadium. Items prohibited include outside alcoholic beverages, plastic bottles that aren't factory-sealed, glass bottles or cans, ice chests (soft and hard-sided), banners, flags, pets of any kind (there is an exception for service animals), and laser pointers.

Final Useful Tips When Going to MetLife Stadium

MetLife Stadium is served by Meadowlands Sports Complex Station. Rail service to the station is provided for events with an expected attendance of over 50,000. Trains leave from Hoboken terminal. Bus 351 connects the Port Authority to MetLife Stadium on game days.

There are parking lots available for those who want to drive, with accessible parking and drop-off available in three of the lots.

The stadium offers amenities such as family restrooms, baby changing stations, a children's ticketing policy (kids up to 34" in height can get in for free for NFL events if they sit on the lap of an adult with a ticketed seat), lost children/parents help, and nursing stations. One thing to note, you won't be able to carry in a stroller, you will need to check it at the gate designated for strollers, and there is a fee involved.
