First held in 1972, in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a celebration of this town's rich German heritage, the festival gradually became the largest Oktoberfest in the United States.

During the 19th century, a significant part of the city's population consisted of German immigrants, laying the foundation of Oktoberfest. Now, many people gather in Ohio to pay tribute to Oktoberfest's cultural roots, mirroring the traditional Oktoberfest held in Munich, Germany.

The famous Oktoberfest in Munich also happens in late September, but that’s not the only reason! The Zinzinnati Oktoberfest's organizer, the Cincinnati Regional Chamber, decided to take advantage of Cincinnati's warm September weather. Today, they continue to hold Oktoberfest in September, ensuring a pleasant experience for all visitors.

Oktoberfest in Cincinnati had several different locations in the past. When it first started, it was held around Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati. There were fewer visitors, so this square was an appropriate spot! Circumstances have shifted, and now, the event is located in Southwest Ohio, at Sawyer Point and Yeatman's Cove, two beautiful parks, alongside the Ohio River.

Expect a large crowd. Last year recorded as many as 808,300 attendees. The 2023 atmosphere was hectic, with packed beer gardens, lively polka music, and endless rows of food stalls serving up German favorites. Organize your time to get the best out of the festival and maybe even make new friends!

The venue at Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove is ideal for nature and recreation enthusiasts, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. • German food vendors - here you can try authentic German sausages, bratwurst, and mettwurst ($6 - $10). If you're fond of pretzels ($5 - 8), try oversized Bavarian ones with cheese or mustard. Many vendors also serve desserts, such as apple strudels ($5 - $8).
• Beer and beverage vendors - among beers ($7 - $20), some famous German brands like Warsteiner are available. Cincinnati's brewing history is known for breweries like Christian Moerlein and Rhingeist. Of course, vendors serve non-alcoholic drinks, such as lemonade and water ($3 - $5).
• Craft and souvenir vendors - if you want to dress in traditional Bavarian clothes, these vendors sell Dirndls, wonderfully made dresses for women, and Lederhosen, leather shorts for men, alongside many accessories and souvenirs that you can purchase and keep as a memory. Jewelry, ornaments, mugs, T-shirts, and much more, all beautifully crafted, will put a smile on your face!
