More about Golden Gate Park

Despite not being an amusement park - though there used to be a Ferris wheel - Golden Gate Park in San Francisco gets its fair share of visitors each year: about 24 million in all. It’s the US’s third-most-visited park, after Central Park and the Lincoln Memorial. In fact, due to its rectangular shape, it often gets compared to New York’s Central Park.

However, this 1000+ acre urban park has a personality all its own. It’s like one very long carpet of green in the heart of Frisco. You’ll find a botanical garden, replicas of ancient architecture, ponds, the De Young Museum, a Temple of Music and even an indoor rainforest in the California Academy of Sciences. Naturally, there are lots and lots of plants throughout the park, too.

The park is open to foot traffic from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Each Saturday for a half-day and all of Sunday, parts of JFK Drive is closed to cars. Cyclists and rollerbladers take advantage of these times to really let loose. It’s possible to rent a boat at the park, allowing you to explore the waterways in the park. It’s also possible to rent bikes or to tour the park on Segways. These tours run between an hour and a half and three hours and give visitors a look at the history of landmarks in the park. Segway riders learn about how the Golden Gate Park was originally sand dunes. There’s also a mention of the Japanese Tea Garden and how it was affected by World War II>

If your travel plans include a stop in San Francisco, you won’t want to miss this stunning piece of open space. However, it is best to see it hands-free, so to speak. We can help you with that. Bounce has partners in the city that offer you plenty of options for luggage storage in Golden Gate Park and the surrounding areas. Our partners are businesses, like restaurants and hotels. They offer bag storage in the Golden Gate Park area for less than $6 a day. Check your Bounce app for details.
